Tips For Healthy Teeth During the Holidays

Serving Greater Philadelphia, including Ardmore, Bryn Mawr, & Newtown Square.

As we enter the holidays, many of us are enjoying holiday parties and all of the sugary goodies that come with them. And while enjoying treats is definitely part of the season, it’s important to remember your oral health even at this time of year! Dr. Jeffrey Bellisario offers a full range of general dentistry services to his Philadelphia-area patients. Sugary treats are the most obvious oral health roadblocks at the holidays, but in moderation, it’s okay to enjoy these as long as you remember to brush and floss as you normally would. Sometimes we use the stress and activity of the holidays as an excuse to fall out of our normal healthy routines, but with so many cookies, candies, and gingerbread houses, it’s more important than ever to brush!

But don’t forget about the effects of wine. Wine contains high levels of acidity and can degrade the enamel in your teeth. Add orange juice to make mulled wine, and you may be wreaking havoc on your smile. Remember to drink water between glasses of wine, and always brush your teeth afterward to reduce the effect on your enamel and on your tooth color.

Finally, remember that certain foods like candy canes, toffee, and popcorn can cause structural problems like cracked and chipped teeth. Consume these kinds of foods with care.

Stay safe, stay healthy, and enjoy this holiday season. And remember that moderation is key in all things. To make an appointment with our Philadelphia general dentist, please contact Dr. Jeffrey Bellisano today or Call 610-642-7024.
