Teeth whitening is one of the more popular services our Ardmore-area cosmetic dentist offers. After all, we all want bright, white, photogenic. However, there are many steps you can take yourself to prevent teeth discoloration in the first place.
Most of these steps are fairly simple. Following them doesn't guarantee perfectly white teeth (genetics and other factors beyond your control also play roles), but they will go a long way toward keeping your teeth white and making sure you won't need professional teeth whitening.
These steps include:
- Quitting smoking. The nicotine and tar in cigarettes can mar your teeth and make them unattractive. Quit the cigarettes: it's good for your overall health and the coloration of your teeth.
- Moderate your intake of acidic, staining foods and drinks such as wine, sodas, tea, coffee, berries and dark-colored sauces.
- Practice sound dental hygiene. This means brushing your teeth at least twice a day (with a soft-bristled toothbrush, and not too hard) and flossing daily.
- Seeing a dentist at least twice a year. Regularly scheduled cleanings will allow your dentist to help you keep your teeth looking white and bright.
As you can say, preventing tooth discoloration is a relatively simple process. However, if you do find yourself dissatisfied with the color of your teeth in-spite of your best efforts, we offer safe, professional teeth whitening services at our office.
